Entertaining Trailer For Indie Old Folk Road-Trip Comedy ‘Land Ho!’
By Dan BullockAt the beginning of the year, we had our first official look at indie project and Sundance sleeper hit LAND HO! Today, THN are very pleased to share the great looking trailer that follows the life of two old friends who were once brothers-in-law.
Mitch (Earl Lynn Nelson) and Colin (Paul Eenhoorn) were married to two sisters and close friends, but they drifted apart as Mitch and his wife divorced and Colin’s wife died. Now Mitch, a retired surgeon who can’t quite admit to being retired, recruits a reluctant Colin on a holiday to Iceland—just the ticket to perk up a pair who have endured their share of disappointments but still have a spirit of adventure in them.
This films like a fresh new twist on the road movie and also, most importantly, not just for the sake of it. It’s been doing the festival circuit and picking up loads of praise along the way, check out the trailer and let us know what you think!
Stephen King’s ‘It’ Floating To New Line By Steve Palace
Stephen King’s ‘It’ Floating To New Line
By Steve PalaceWarner Bros have been developing a new adaptation of Stephen King’s clowns ‘n coming of age horror novel for a few years now – this appears to be a giant shoe, sorry step, closer with the news that the film has shifted production to the studio’s dedicated horror division. New Line made their name with A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET before branching out into the RUSH HOUR and LORD OF THE RINGS franchises. However with THE CONJURING and this latest move it seems they are once again becoming a bespoke home for the genre.
You may be familiar with IT via the 1990 miniseries directed by Tommy Lee Wallace (HALLOWEEN III), featuring a terrifying Tim Curry as Pennywise, the clown who lives in the sewers and lures children to their deaths with the promise they will “float”. That was split into two hefty chunks and the new movie will be along the same lines with a double feature planned. One is about the characters as children and the next how they cope with the trauma again many years later. It has its detractors, but I’m a fan of the small screen version – the creature feature denouement is far from satisfactory but overall it’s an effective ride. While I’m not sure trying to sustain the tale over more than one trip to the cinema is the best idea it could be a healthy box office move for the company. With King’s GERALD’S GAME about to be filmed by OCULUS’s Mike Flanagan and numerous others on the slate this is also a fertile period for the author.
Skyline Sequel Beyond Skyline Surfaces With Poster

As this is a pretty new announcement we will of course keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Relatively small movie SKYLINE is to
get a sequel, BEYOND SKYLINE. The news broke earlier this week during
Cannes with a Facebook page promoting the new endeavor going live
shortly after. SKYLINE was released at around the same time as Aaron
Eckhart’s soldiers versus alien’s pic BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, which given
the higher profile leading man stole most of the publicity away from
SKYLINE. Neither film made a great deal of money but SKYLINE gained a
cult audience and that audience has allowed the green light on a sequel.
The original writer and producer Liam
O’Donnell will go one role further this time and direct the sequel,
taking over from the Brothers Strause. SKYLINE wasn’t everyone’s cup of
tea and had a rather strange and twisted ending which was also handily
rather open-ended. Apparently it was always hoped that the film would
branch out and become a franchise and with this news it would appear
that they might well be on its way.
No plot details have been released yet
and it is unclear whether Eric Balfour, who played main man Jarrod, will
return, though I’d be interested in seeing how that would happen given
the fate of his character the first time around. A poster however has
been released and it would point to the teaming up of alien and human to
destroy the invaders, check it out below:

From ‘Blue Ruin’ To ‘Green Room’ For Jeremy Saulnier
Having scored a critical and commercial hit with the low budget revenge movie BLUE RUIN, it was only a matter of time before the labours of writer/director Jeremy Saulnier paid off. Announced at Cannes, financing has been secured for his next film, titled GREEN ROOM. Sounding like a variation on John Carpenter, with possibly a smattering of Johannes Roberts’ F (2010), the story is an enclosed battle for survival as a punk band become trapped at a venue by a pack of rampaging fascist skinheads. Set to begin production in September, the money is coming from the appropriately-shaded Broad Green Pictures, who will co-produce with RUIN’s Filmscience. Saulnier looks to be continuing in the visceral mode he started with his debut MURDER PARTY in 2007, with what sounds like a powder keg of a scenario just from the initial description.

‘Jurassic World’ Details Reveal Some Teasing Spoilers by thehollywoodnews.com
‘Jurassic World’ Details Reveal Some Teasing Spoilers
The latest details for JURASSIC PARK’s third sequel, JURASSIC WORLD, give away a few plot points, though nothing major. It sounds as though the majority of such plot elements would be revealed in a future trailer, but for those of you who can’t wait, then continue reading.
JoBlo reports that JURASSIC WORLD, directed by Colin Trevorrow, will see a dinosaur theme park fully operational. It will be an amusement park which has been running for many years without accident, and is a popular destination for the whole family. The experience has even become interactive with dinosaur petting zoos and monorails getting visitors closer to the dinosaurs than ever before.
However, as you can imagine, greed soon sets in and those running the park decide to create new and exciting dinosaurs in order to keep the money flowing and interest at a high. They do this by splicing the DNA of a T-rex, raptor, snake and cuttlefish. Now that’s quite the mixture. Obviously this is the creature that gets loose and starts terrorising the visitors to the island.
Never fear young adventurers, for there is a team of “good” dinosaurs as trained and domesticated by Chris Pratt’s character. These include a T-rex and raptors, meaning we’ll hopefully be getting a lot of dinosaur on dinosaur action.I mean that in a violent way, not a sexy way.

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore Become ‘Blended’ in New Romantic Comedy
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore Become ‘Blended’ in New Romantic Comedy
Usually after a date goes wrong the couple go their separate ways with the avowed intention of never seeing each other again. But according to the new Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore comedy it seems such people are missing a trick, as you can use it as a springboard to get a whole bunch of free stuff. Posing as a happy man and wife in order to qualify for a holiday at a luxury resort, it isn’t long before the chemistry starts to flow and the former car crash daters fall in love for real without the need for pina coladas or the act of getting caught in the rain. This is the premise for BLENDED, the pair’s third movie together and the first to reunite them with the director who started their onscreen partnership in THE WEDDING SINGER back in 1998, Frank Coraci.
With Sandler and Barrymore now firmly into middle age, BLENDED sees them on more of a family footing, with their respective children along for the ride. Now that Sandler is approaching the Big Five O you’d think he’d be toning down the ‘woo’ factor but the filmmakers were keen for him to get stuck into proceedings with his co-star, the surprise cheerleader being none other than his wife Jackie:
South Korean Crime Drama ‘Hwayi’ to Get U.S. Remake By Ciham Messouki on May 20, 2014
South Korean Crime Drama ‘Hwayi’ to Get U.S. Remake
By Ciham Messouki on May 20, 2014
South Korean crime drama HWAYI: A MONSTER BOY is the latest film
ready for an American remake. The project is set to be co-produced by
the original creators and it’s American partners, and they’re ready
to work with Spanish producer Frida Torresblanco, best known for
producing Guillermo del Toro’s incredible PAN’S LABYRINTH.
Torresblanco met with Lee Jun-dong, head of Now Film, to discuss the co-production plans at the Cannes Film Festival. Previous remakes of successful Korean titles have often been received poorly. Spike Lee’s reimagining of OLDBOY failed to excite audiences and resulted in an expected disappointment. ‘We have decided to take part in the production as a collaborator in order to ensure the quality of the remake, rather than simply handing over the storyline,’ said Lee.
HWAYI is about a teenage boy raised by a band of criminals. One day he is forced to commit a crime and sets out to discover the truth about his past. The film is directed by Jang Joon-hwan, who is best known for the cult film SAVE THE GREEN PLANET.

Watch: Tommy Lee Jones Directs & Stars In Great First Clip For In ‘The Homesman’ By Dan Bullock
We previously gave you the first trailer
for THE HOMESMAN, and now we’ve got this first very entertaining clip
that might be dealing with some serious people, but with an underlying
dark humour running through it.
This one is also something special as Tommy Lee Jones not only stars, but also also directs, produces, has written and makes the tea for this film that, on a basic level, follows a ‘claims’ jumper and a pioneer woman, who team up to escort three insane women from Nebraska to Iowa. Sounds like a lot of fun, right?
I’d highly recommend watching this clip that obviously takes place early on in the film, after Hilary Swank’s character Mary Bee Cuddy has saved George Briggs (Lee Jones) from certain death. The film is based on the novel by Glendon Sarthout and sets us up for a very interesting prospect that also stars Hailee Steinfeld (TRUE GRIT), William Fichtner, Meryl Streep and James Spader.
Did you also know that Tommy Lee Jones has also been nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for this role, watch it now:

Batman The Top 25 (Best Production Design) By Joey Magidson
Here we go again folks with another Top 25. Today I’ll be knocking off another one of the technical categories, with this one being the always elaborate Best Production Design field. The category is usually a feast for the eyes, but there’s plenty more to it than that. The sets and the environment on the whole are put on display here in an often magical way. I have a few specific titles I’ll be citing below, but I know the game here. You all mostly just want to see the lists anyway, so I have no problem obliging you there in that particular regard. All you have to do is just be patient over the next few paragraphs once again…
This time around, I’m once again going the overview route, since as mentioned above the look of these winners is really what matters here. Also, it really just depends on what sort of winner you’re partial to here. There are all different sorts that have won the Academy Award here for this category, so it’s pretty much a matter of taste. Period, Sci-Fi, etc…all have their moment in the sun.
I’ll basically just discuss my top ten a bit. To me, the best winner of this category so far to date has been Tim Burton’s Batman, which isn’t the best movie in the world, but features some breathtaking Production Design by Anton Furst. It’s amazingly unique, you have to give the design that. Close behind I had Pan’s Labyrinth and Titanic, two other films I don’t love but think have amazing Production Design. On the next tier are two flicks I like a lot more in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Star Wars. Wrapping up the top ten you have the likes of Avatar, Barry Lyndon, Chicago, Dick Tracy, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, all very worthy winners. This is actually a pretty stacked category, so there were tons more than 25 winners that I could have chosen from in this field.
Here now is how I’d rank the 25 top winners of the Best Production Design Oscar:
25. The Aviator
24. The Great Gatsby (2013)
23. Memoirs of a Geisha
22. Amadeus
21. Cabaret
20. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
19. The Last Emperor
18. Moulin Rouge!
17. The Godfather: Part II
16. Doctor Zhivago
15. Schindler’s List
14. The Apartment
13. All That Jazz
12. Hugo
11. Lawrence of Arabia
10. Dick Tracy
9. Avatar
8. Raiders of the Lost Ark
7. Chicago
6. Barry Lyndon
5. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
4. Star Wars
3. Titanic
2. Pan’s Labyrinth
1. Batman
Stay tuned for another Top 25 installment next week!
Hugh Jackman: Spotlight on the Stars By Joey Magidson
For this week’s spotlight piece, I wanted to take a look at an A-list
actor who also happens to be a superhero as well, and that would be
Hugh Jackman. Not only is he one of the bigger action stars on the
planet right now due to his many turns as Wolverine in various X-Men
movies, he’s also a talented song and dance man as well as an underrated
dramatic actor. He’s even hosted the Oscars, which is nothing to sneeze
at. There’s very little that Jackman can’t do, which makes him very
deserving of a spotlight today right here on the site.
For me, his best films often are his more dramatic ones. From The Fountain (one of my all time five favorite films) to Les Miserables (even if that movie isn’t particularly good, at least in my eyes) to The Prestige, and last year’s Prisoners, Jackman has the chops to do drama. Especially in The Fountain and Prisoners, he turned in work that was worthy of awards acclaim. With Les Miserables, he overcame some problematic direction to deliver strong work with a powerful singing voice. That’s a combination that you don’t really see every day in this business.
On the flip side though, Jackman has a great skill when it comes to kicking ass. His Wolverine is a fairly iconic character at this point. He broke through in Hollywood with X-Men playing the character, and this week’s sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past will mark his seventh turn as the hero/anti-hero. That’s another rare situation…how many actors can play the same sort of superhero that many times and still be sharp in the role. Honestly, he’s only getting better in the part. It hasn’t always been the most challenging for him, but he always gives it his all.
Overall, Jackman has always struck me as a bit of an underrated actor when all is said and done, with more talent than he’s given credit credit for because of his action hero status. With this week’s X-Men: Days of Future Past showing him in that same light, that might continue. Still, something recent like Prisoners should be a reminder that he’s got a lot more to offer. He’s gotten some Oscar attention before (in addition to being a host, of course), but I think he’s going to win a statue before too long. He’s got the talent, so it’s just a matter of hitting on the right role at the right time. Mark my words, it’ll happen…
